Dayot Upamecano has spoken up about his experience under new Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany and has heaped praise on the Belgian manager after both the club and Upamecano himself endured a tough 2023-24 season with Thomas Tuchel, under whom the club went trophyless last term.

Bayern Munich's 2023-24 season was not quite what they were hoping for, as Bayer Leverkusen broke their 11-year Bundesliga-winning streak en route to a historic, unbeaten title run.
Tuchel subsequently left the club at the end of the season, making way for Kompany.
The former Burnley manager has started his career in Bavaria on a pretty bright note. In 21 games, Bayern have won 15 games, leading the Bavarians to the top of the Bundesliga table. Considering that they are not doing too bad in the Champions League either, the only blip has been the extra-time loss to Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal Round of 16.
WHAT DAYOT UPAMECANO SAID
"Last season was a bad season for us – it wasn't good for me either. But the most important thing is that we are where we are today. And we have a very, very good coach [now]," Upamecano told BILD in what could be construed as a subtle dig at Tuchel, his previous coach at Bayern.
"I've talked a lot with Kompany, he's helping me and I'm very, very happy with him. We do a lot of video analysis – also with the assistant coach. He helps me a lot and I think he helps the team too. I'm very happy because I can develop further with him. And I don't think I'm at the end of my development yet. The most important thing is that when you make a mistake, you have to fix it and focus quickly. That's what I did. The coach said he was happy – and that's very good for me and the whole team."
AFPWHAT NEXT FOR BAYERN MUNICH?
Bayern won against Heidenheim at the weekend, an entertaining game which ended 4-2 in the favour of Kompany's men. Their next assignment is a Champions League outing against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday, December 10.
