Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has revealed that the injury he sustained against Manchester City on Saturday could have been much worse.
The Belgium international limped off the pitch in the 67th minute of the game at the Etihad Stadium shortly after Dele Alli had pulled a goal back for Spurs.
With Jan Vertonghen already on the sidelines for a lengthy chunk of time, Mauricio Pochettino could not afford to lose another defender.

As it stands, though, Alderweireld, who has started 14 Premier League games this season, believes that he is likely to be back training with his teammates within the next seven days as he undergoes treatment at a camp in Barcelona.
The defender has admitted that he was scared about the extent of the injury, stating that his hamstring could have snapped had he sprinted after pulling up.
The Mirror quotes Alderweireld as saying:
“At the moment I went down, my hamstring was about to snap. If you then have to sprint in a one on one, you’re done. I could have been out for six or seven weeks. This was experience. I felt that something was coming, so I decided not to take any risk.”
Tottenham ended up snatching a point against City d thanks to Son Heung-min’s 77th-minute equaliser, which made it 2-2 at the Etihad.
