Bayern are interested in signing Carreras from Benfica as they aim to reinforce their backline, reports. Alphonso Davies has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid and Carreras is viewed as a potential replacement for the Canada international, in a potential blow to United's hopes of bringing him back to Old Trafford.

Carreras was on the books at United between 2020 and 2024 but did not make a first-team appearance before he was sold to Benfica in a deal that could be worth up to £7 million ($9m). Now, though, the has reported that United cannot afford him at present, despite having a £16m ($20m) buy-back option, opening the door to Bayern swooping in.
