According to results from our recent poll, the majority of Newcastle fans would not be in favour of a swap deal that would see Tom Cairney move to St James Park and Jonjo Shelvey head the other way.
The Sun reported last week that Fulham boss Claudio Ranieri is keen on exchanging club captain Cairney for hard-man Shelvey as the Cottagers look to boost their survival hopes by signing a new holding midfielder.
Rafa Benitez has previously shown interest in the 27-year-old and has attempted to sign him in the past, while former Leicester honcho Ranieri deems the Scotsman surplus to requirements.
Similarly, Shelvey has somewhat fallen out of favour on Tyneside and is no longer a guaranteed starter as Benitez prefers Ki Sung-Yeung at the base of his midfield, however the Spaniard may be reluctant to let the former Liverpool man go in January with Ki on international duty in the Asia Cup.
Regardless of Shelvey’s position in the team and the lack of a creative midfielder, 64% of Magpies fans don’t think the swap would be worthwhile – you can check out the full results of the poll below…
