The impact that Eriksson had on football during a coaching career that lasted nearly half a century was quickly felt once news of his death at the age of 76 became known.

England's official X account posted: "We are deeply saddened that Sven-Göran Eriksson, who managed the Thre Lions from 2001 to 2006, has passed away aged 76. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time. Rest in peace, Sven. You will be greatly missed."
FA president Prince William said: "Sad to hear about the passing of Sven-Goran Eriksson. I met him several times as England manager and was always struck by his charisma and passion for the game. My thoughts are with his family and friends. A true gentleman of the game."
Lazio was the club where Eriksson truly became internationally known, delivering only the club's second-ever Scudetto in 2000. Their was a simple message of immense gratitude: "Thank you for everything you've done for us, mister."
Sven was manager at Manchester City just as the club was about to take off: "We would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Sven-Goran Eriksson, who has passed away at the age of 76. Rest in peace, Sven."
Part of a lengthy tribute from Sweden's football federation summarised his incredible legacy in his home nation: "With his outstanding coaching success, Svennis has inspired leaders in Swedish football for several decades, and his influence extends far beyond Sweden's borders."
Liverpool, having touchingly granted Eriksson's dying wish to manage a game at Anfield, said: "Rest in peace, Sven-Goran Eriksson. The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Sven’s family and friends at this extremely sad time."
Sharing a video of Eriksson at home, journalist Henry Winter said: "This is how I will remember Sven. Full of life in the garden of his beautiful, beloved house in Sunne, Sweden, kicking a ball for his happy dog Ame. Privileged to have visited him there."

After going public with a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in January 2024 and revealing "at best" he had 12 months to live, Eriksson's family announced his death on August 26.
A family statement read: "After a long illness, SGE died during the morning at home surrounded by family. The closest mourners are daughter Lina; son Johan with wife Amana and granddaughter Sky; father Sven; girlfriend Yanisette with son Alcides; brother Lars-Erik with wife Jumnong. The family asks for respect for their wish to mourn in private and not be contacted."
