The clubhave been considering the option of moving to one of two sites, in eitherEast Manchester or Wigan, but they are now remaining at their home of 149years.There is one final hurdle to cross with Lancashire’s plans still dependenton the approval of Trafford Borough Council, who have a partnership withthe club. The council are planning to move away from Trafford Town Hall,which is opposite the ground, and this has proved a driving force behindthe push for redevelopment instead of a move.The plans to modernise the ground are expected to cost in the region of£20million with work needed on the stands and facilities for the public.Jack Simmons, the chairman, said: “No-one is more pleased to be stayinghere than me. Today’s news is fabulous.”Andrew Flintoff had also made his feelings clear about the idea of leavingOld Trafford, saying he wouldn’t want Lancashire to be based anywhereelse. Simmons added: “I know someone else who is delighted – and that is’Freddie’ Flintoff. He really wanted to stay here.”Lancashire’s business committee chairman Michael Cairns said: “This is astunning opportunity for us to get it right. It represents a fullcommitment by both parties to produce a cricket arena of outstandingquality.”
