Tasmania made assured progress with each of their top-three registering fifties, but South Australia hit back with late wickets on the first day of their Sheffield Shield game in Adelaide. After having opted to bat, Tasmania had a strong start, courtesy an 86-run opening partnership between Dom Michael and Ed Cowan. The stand, however, ended when part-time seamer Mark Cosgrove removed Cowan in the 32nd over, after the batsman had raised his 38th first-class fifty and his second of this Shield season.Michael combined well with Jordan Silk to build on the platform by adding 125 for the second wicket. Silk (63) and Beau Webster (0) departed in successive overs and then Travis Head dismissed Michael three shy of a century. Ben Dunk (9) and Tim Paine (10) were also out in quick succession as Tasmania slid from 1 for 211 to 6 for 258. Head took three wickets, while Daniel Worall, Kane Richardson and Cosgrove chipped in with one each.
