According to The Daily Mail, Liverpool’s Dominic Solanke has had a medical at Crystal Palace ahead of a January loan move in search of some game-time. Palace mustn’t stop there as they still lack bite up front and they should make a move for Arber Zeneli to maximise Solanke’s output.
What’s the word?
Well, The Daily Mail reports that Roy Hodgson is willing to give Solanke a much-needed shot at Premier League first-team football as he slips to the bottom of the pile at Anfield and that the former England boss has beaten off competition from Bournemouth, Huddersfield, Ranger and bitter rivals Brighton to get the youngster in red and blue.
The Reading-born hitman has made 28 appearances for the Reds in his 18 months on Merseyside and found the net just once but, admittedly, has the likes of Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge for competition so has not been afforded an extended run in the side – as Liverpool mount a title charge this season, the 21-year-old has found opportunities even harder to come by and has been dropped to the Under 23s.
The Under 17s World Cup winner’s strike rate may be a tad concerning but, should Palace bring Zeneli through the door, too, his goals per minute ratio will surely soar.
Unselfish Zeneli
The 23-year-old Kosovian has been in sensational form for Dutch outfit SC Heerenveen this season as he terrorises defences with his pace and three goals so far this season, but it’s his assist numbers that make him the perfect new foil for Solanke.
Teeing up a teammate an impressive ten times in 16 league appearances, the 5-foot-9 winger leads the assist charts in the Netherlands top flight and would, therefore, be a dream for any striker hoping to find some goalscoring form.
A lack of creation hasn’t necessarily been a problem for the Eagles this season, although many of their ‘chances’ are long range efforts as they are missing a conventional centre-forward – by pairing the hunger of Solanke with the invention of Zeneli, Hodgson and co would soon forget they ever had a goal problem.
